Phil’s passion for the creative arts and marketing have allowed him to work across Africa and Asia, where he has worked with several artists and organizations on developing digital strategies and campaigns.
In 2017 Phil was named a Nelson Mandela Fellow and was chosen to complete his fellowship at the prestigious Ivy League institution Dartmouth College.
He is currently the Managing Director of Point Black – a boutique digital marketing agency focused on helping clients reach their customers in the most efficient ways possible.
Point Black’s ethos is to change the way African stories are told and shared. The agency currently works with a wide range of clients from individuals to multinational franchises.
As a digital content creator, Phil’s content has reached millions of people interested in African stories and content.
He has been blogging and podcasting for almost a decade via The African Hip Hop Blog and 2 Broke Twimbos.
The African Hip Hop Blog has won The Best Blog in Africa and the Best Music Blog category at the African Blogger Awards. At its peak, The African Hip Hop Blog registered 1,000,000 visitors a month before it shuttered operations in early 2018.
2 Broke Twimbos is an award-winning podcast and blog that documents the careers of notable African creatives while providing incisive commentary on current events in popular culture. The podcast has been downloaded over 500,000 times. In 2016 it won Best Digital Media at the Zimbabwean Music Awards. It was also cited as the main source in an Oxford University Academic Publication.
Phil is also a seasoned public speaker and event host and artist manager.
