Abel Dzobo is a documentary filmmaker and journalist who holds a Master’s in Media and Society Studies degree from Midlands State University (2015). He is also a lecturer in the Media, Communication and Film and Theatre Arts at MSU, where he teaches Film and Documentary Production, Media Law & Ethics and Digital Media Strategy. His first film was the 30-minute documentary “The Show Goes On” (2011) on the late Tongai Moyo’s inspirational cancer battle. He has written and produced various short films and social justice documentaries, which earned him a berth at the Mandela Washington Fellowship’s Young Leader Initiative (YALI) in 2017, and he was at the University of Texas at Austin for two months where he completed a Business and Entrepreneurship course. He is interested in creative economies, and believes creatives silo themselves in creativity alone while ignoring the revenue side, which has seen many failing to grow the business, or even facing startup mortality. His research interests are in film, music, media economics and media law and ethics.
